Meet Me by the Old Oak Tree

oak tree love

It was 6:30 in the afternoon when we raced up the winding Silverado Canyon Road, watching the sun disappear behind the mountains with ever increasing panic. “We have to get to the oak tree,” I thought. I could see it in my mind, remembering its giant limbs casting long shadows over verdant grass.

Thirty seemingly endless minutes later we arrived at “the spot.” The oak tree stood in the same place, though much lonelier than I remembered and the green grass beneath its boughs are now dried and brown. No matter, the sun still shined its golden rays at this perfect summer afternoon hour and I can still feel the beauty of this place. I brought out the Canon 5D, feeling giddy with excitement. Then the clicking began…

One last kiss against the fading light, and then we said our goodbyes, til next time…
