Growing up in Orange County, I’ve hung out at the “Anti-mall” (aka The Lab in Costa Mesa) countless times. But it wasn’t until I started taking pictures here that I realized how cute this place really is!
This is why I love photography…time slows down behind the lens, allowing you to absorb the details and the moments.
The Lab, and its counterpart, the Camp, right across the street were a perfect for setting my models, a fun-loving couple, Thary and Roger. These two were totally a blast to shoot! They were so fun and energetic, and not at all shy about PDA. Even with people walking by us, they were fully in the moment. They made it easy to make pretty pictures and I was super happy with how the pics turned out!
On this shoot, I tried out some new techniques I’ve been learning from Jose Villa’s book. Even though Jose is a film photographer, his tips applies to digital as well, and they helped me tremendously! I seriously feel like this shoot is light years away from my previous one. I highly recommend his book for aspiring photographers or anyone who loves Jose’s style.
I’m naturally a visual learner, so when I see a great photograph, I always wonder how someone achieves the shot so I love it when pro photographers are open to share their technique. If you got any favorite photography books you live by, please let me know. I’m turning up my photography hobby up a notch this summer

I loved the photo by the stairs, and also the one with the giant flowerpot. What a cute couple! ♥
