Through the ages, the relationship between couples and the great outdoors has spurred the creativity of many artists; in fishing, horseback riding, or simply taking respite in the castle courtyard. With 19th century romantics, the main focus tended to vary, as seen in de Blaas' figurative interpretation of the phrase "catch of the day" and Kaemmerer's depiction of a couple catching supper together in the French countryside. Our inspiration for this set came in part from these works, as well as from the bright, idyllic illustrations of American artists from the Dick-and-Jane era, and the proposal story that Kristen and Mark shared with us when we first met. While fishing together one day, Mark, a master fisherman, was having trouble landing his trophy fish. After exhausting all of his fishing expertise, he asked Kristen to try picking out the next lure from the tacklebox.
